How to apply online for a US account overseas

HSBC Jade and HSBC Premier customers can now submit their application online to HSBC US for a sole (not joint) HSBC US Premier checking account and/or Premier Savings account. You may also apply online if you qualify to open an overseas HSBC Premier account in the US.

Things to know before applying

Who can apply?

You can apply online if you're at least 18 years of age and meet one of the following criteria:

  • you are not a US citizen
  • you do not have a US Social Security Number
  • you have lived in the US for less than 1 year

You must also be applying from an eligible country or region and have either:

  • combined HSBC account balances of at least USD75,000
  • monthly direct deposits of USD5,000, or
  • an HSBC US residential mortgage loan of USD500,000 (new HSBC Jade or Premier customers)

What you'll need

Some of the things we'll ask for include:

  • your employment, income and tax details
  • valid proof of identity such as your passport, driving license or national ID
  • proof of your current address, such as a bank statement or utility bill

You are now able to complete identity verification using a mobile device during the application process. A passport will be required. You will have the option to skip this step.

How to apply online for a Canada account overseas

HSBC customers at least 18 years of age can now apply online to HSBC Canada for a sole (not joint) HSBC Bank Canada account using digital ID verification.

International students looking to participate in the Canada immigration Study Direct Stream (SDS) program to fast-track their study permit may also apply online to HSBC Canada for the HSBC Canada International Student Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) Program for SDS. 

Eligible international students who do not require a GIC account may also apply online for a range of HSBC Canada personal chequing accounts.

Who can apply?

You can apply online if you're at least 18 years of age and either:

  • moving to Canada, or
  • you're an HSBC Hong Kong customer, and one of the following applies:
    • you need to send money to family/relatives in Canada
    • you need to receive money from business, employment, assets/investments, or family/relatives in Canada
    • you own property in Canada

Please note that we won't be able to provide you with international banking services if you are not moving to Canada and you currently reside in the following countries:

Austria, Brunei, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, or South Korea.

How to apply via mobile banking for a Hong Kong account overseas

For Hong Kong ID (HKID) holders who are aged 18-64, it's even faster and easier to open an account online with us with just your Hong Kong ID (HKID) and mobile phone. Download the HSBC HK Mobile Banking app and your new account will be ready to go in under 5 minutes.

HSBC Jade or HSBC Premier customers living in the UK can log on and apply online for an HSBC overseas account in 10 countries and regions: Australia, Canada, mainland China, France, Hong Kong, HSBC Expat (Jersey), India, Singapore, the UAE and the US.

How to apply online for a Singapore account overseas

HSBC Jade and Premier customers in Hong Kong automatically qualify for an HSBC Everyday Global Account (Premier) in Singapore. You can now submit your sole (not joint) account application online or through mobile banking to HSBC Singapore.

How to apply online for an Expat account overseas

HSBC Expat offers both sole and joint expat bank accounts. Customers at least 18 years of age who meet one of the criteria can submit an application online to HSBC Expat.

Things to know before applying

Who can apply?

HSBC Expat Premier

You can apply online if you're at least 18 years of age and either:

  • maintain a minimum of GBP50,000 (or currency equivalent) in deposits or investments
  • have a sole salary of GBP100,000 (or currency equivalent)
  • have already qualified for HSBC Premier in another country

HSBC Expat Advance

You can apply online if:

  • you're at least 18 years of age
  • you will maintain a minimum of GBP15,000 (or currency equivalent) in deposits or investments

You must also currently reside in an eligible country or region.
